The time has come to start capturing the final footage for our documentary On Board. It’s been an incredible journey filming for the last year, but after sitting down with everything, the holes in the plot need to be filled. A lot of that is the b-roll. When compiling our footage, one of the things we needed for the trailer that was clearly missing, was footage of Paris. When the trailer is released (perhaps by the time you read this), it is clear why we needed it, but I struggled with the best way to get it. One option was obvious – go online and buy a few clips of the city of lights. However, as we are shooting this documentary in 4K – that option was expensive.

The opportunity to go to East Timor with The Points Guy, Brian Kelly, was a total surprise and blessing. Timor Leste is an extremely small country near Bali. It gained its independence from Indonesia in 1999 so it a very new country, and also it is listed as the 6th poorest country in the world. It definitely was not high up on the ‘places in the world to visit’ list, as none of the four people on my crew had ever even heard of it. We were scheduled to arrive on Sunday, with Brian and his family arriving Monday, and were going to stay for a week filming various events, a Peace Jam conference for our documentary On Board, and some epic scuba diving on the island of Atauro.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the need for creative outlets. In my adult life, I started in graphic design, which morphed to web designer and then somehow I accidentally found my way into editing videos, which led me to begin shooting them. My love for every part of the process has allowed me to try my hand in almost every single part of the film making process, which ultimately is why I became a director and producer. In 2015, I released Back in Time, which was a full-feature documentary that looked at the fan culture of Back to the Future. It gave me incredible opportunities to meet some of the most amazing people and travel all over the globe shooting a promoting the film. At the same time, I began traveling for my corporate work and have been fortunate to film projects on almost every continent on earth.
